What is the difference between the different ways of connecting to the internet? There are so many acronyms that it can become a little confusing.

Let’s start by looking at what the options are:

  • Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) – is a type of DSL broadband communications technology used for connecting to the Internet. ADSL allows more data to be sent over existing copper telephone lines (POTS) when compared to traditional modem lines.
  • Fixed Long-Term Evolution (LTE) – is a standard for wireless broadband communication for mobile devices and data terminals, based on the GSM/EDGE and UMTS/HSPA technologies. It increases the capacity and speed using a different radio interface together with core network improvements.
  • Fibre – This uses delicate and tiny strands of glass or plastic for carrying binary transmission, which makes fibre internet services unique when compared to other internet services.

So what is the difference in cost, speed and installation?

  • Cost – Budget-friendly but limited maximum speed.
  • Speed – 1 Mbps to 40 Mbps.
  • Installation – Fixed installation dependent on infrastructure. Not easily scalable if you want to change your line speed.

  • Cost – 10GB a month, Fixed LTE will be the cheapest option. High data volumes will be expensive.
  • Speed – Up to 50 Mbps.
  • Installation – Easy plug and play installation.

  • Cost – Budget-friendly option with high speeds.
  • Speed – From 10 Mbps to 1000 Mbps.
  • Installation – Fixed installation dependent on infrastructure. Scalable if you want to change your line speed.

Good morning, when will I be receiving the quote that we requested on Monday morning, the 20th. It’s for fixed LTE at 40 IsunduDrive, Amanzimtoti. Fibre is not yet available here. I am interested in at least a Uncapped, 4Mbps line. This is quite urgent please.
